SEIREI SHOKON JINJA (THE SHRINE OF THE SPIRITS OF THE WAR DEAD) -- Enshrinement of the Spirits of Patriot for their Dedication to the country during the Pacific War

The Seirei Shokon Jinja, the Shrine of the Spirits of the War Dead, is sacred to all spirits of the soldiers and civilians who, regardless of their nationalities, died during the Pacific War. Post-war Japan has built remarkable peace and prosperity. However, we should not forget that today's peace and prosperity was brought by the sacrifice of those who fought in the war to protect their loving families and countries. Countless numbers of soldiers and civilians lost their lives during the war, and in some cases their spirits are not properly enshrined yet. Their remains still have been left exposed to wind and rain on the battlefield or on the deep bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

With a prayer for the peace of those spirits who dedicated their lives to their country and people, Seicho-No-Ie Uji Temple dedicated a shrine on October 21, 1963, and has continued reciting the Holy Sutras for them.
