ZENKOKU RYUZANJI KUYOTO (THE MONUMENT OF SPIRITS OF MISCARRIED CHILDREN) -- Prayer for Spiritual Peace of Miscarried Children under the Guidance of Jibo Kanzeon Bosatsu (the Goddess of Motherly Love)

The Zenkoku Ryuzan-ji Kuyo-to (the Monument of Spirits of Miscarried Children) was established to dedicate prayers for the spiritual peace of the spirits of miscarried children who could not be born to this life by abortion or other reasons. On August 20, 1961, the first monument was made out of a Japanese cypress and the first memorial service for the spirits of miscarried children was conducted. Since then, the Memorial Service for Miscarried Children has been held in conjunction with the Grand Bon Festival, the Annual Ancestral Memorial Service in August, the one of the important annual events of the Seicho-No-Ie Uji Temple.

On October 14, 1965, new monument was made out of 25-ton granite and replaced with the wooden one, and a statue of the Jibo Kannon (the Goddess of Motherly Love) was placed on it. Seicho-No-Ie established the monument in Japan for the first time that dedicated only to the spirits of miscarried children. Many people who offered prayers to this monument received miraculous experiences.
