HOZO JINJA (THE MAIN SHRINE)

-- The Spiritual Basis of Humanity Enlightenment Movement
-- The Sacred Place to Directly Connect with the Spiritual World

On August 19, 1960, the Hozo Jinja(the main shrine) was built not as a shrine of the Lord of Seicho-No-Ie but as a mausoleum of spirits of Seicho-No-Ie members and their ancestors. The Honzon Mandala, the principal image of the wheel of the Great Universal Life, is placed on the main altar of the shrine. In its center, the comprehensive manifestation of the Great Universal Life, "the Lord of Seicho-No-Ie" is enshrined. To its left, the manifestations of Okuni-Nushi-No-Okami (the Great Guardian of Spiritual World) and the Kanzeon-Bosatsu (the Goddess of Mercy), the savior of spiritual and phenomenal worlds by manifesting its appearances into 33 ways as necessary, are enshrined. To the right of Honzon Mandala, the manifestation of the Jizo Dai Bosatsu (the Guardian of Children) and Amitabva (the Guardian of Healing) are enshrned. The Honzon Mandala plays an important role as an antenna to ask for these Guardians' guidance for peace and enlightenment of the spirits enshrined in each sub-shrine. In the Shiun-Den in both sides of the main shrine, the Spiritual Holy Missioners for the eternal enshrinement are enshrined and in the other two shrines of Komyo-gu and Hozo-gu, the Spiritual Holy Mission Fellows are enshrined. In Reiden (Shrine of Spirits), the regular spirits being offerred enshrinement by the Regular Spiritual Registers and the spirits of miscarried children being offerred enshrinement by the Spiritual Registers of Miscarried Children are enshrined.

Visiting Hozo Jinja literally means to offer our respects to the Lord of Seicho-No-Ie and the Guardians as His incarnations; Okuni-Nushi-No-Okami (the Great Guardian of Spiritual World), Kanzeon-Bosatsu (the Goddess of Mercy), Jizo Dai Bosatsu (the Guardian of Chidren), and Amitabva (the Guardian of Healing). At the same time, it has a significance to offer our gratitude for the peace and enlightenment of our ancestors' spirits those who are always protected and guided by the Lord of Seicho-No-Ie and give us necessary powers and inspirations in order to work together for promotion of the Humanity Enlightenment Movement.

The important role of enshrinement of our ancestors' spirits in Hozo Jinja is to understand the sanctity or dignity of the Honzon Mandala and its role. That is as Dr. Masaharu Taniguchi, founder of Seicho-No-Ie, said, "to support the Will of Lord of Seicho-No-Ie to pacify this phenomenal world in divine order in cooperation among gods and buddhas as incarnations (of the Lord of Seicho-No-Ie, the Great Universal Life) and our ancestors' spirits with sincere respect." In other words, this is to promote the Humanity Enlightenment Movement - the International Peace by Faith Movement in cooperation between spiritual and phenomenal worlds.
